The Shiba Inu team has recently provided a fresh update on the Shib Name Service.

The Shiba Inu team, in collaboration with domain name startup D3 Global and marketing lead Lucie, has released a recent update on the .shib internet domain name. D3 shared a link in a tweet, directing Shiba Inu holders to sign up for early access to secure their unique .shib names within the global domain name systems (DNS).

The announcement emphasized that the ShibArmy should be prepared to obtain their official interoperable digital identity by acquiring a SHIB Name Token. This new digital identity is being provided in partnership with Shib, and Lucie, the marketing lead, urged community members to take note of this update.

For those interested in early access, Shiba Inu holders can pre-register on the D3 platform. Upon visiting the website, users can click on the “Save Your Spot” button, enter their email address, and receive a login link within 30 minutes. Using the link, they can check for available .shib names and, if the desired name is open, finalize the process by clicking the “Remind me when Early Access begins” button.

The update follows the strategic partnership between Shiba Inu and D3, aiming to introduce DNS alternatives for the SHIB community. As part of this collaboration, Shiba Inu plans to apply for the .shib top-level domain (TLD) during the upcoming application window of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Typically, a TLD is the final part of a domain name found after the dot in a website address, such as .org, .com, .biz, and .net. Shiba Inu is notably seeking its own unique TLD, .shib, making it one of the pioneering Web3 protocols to apply for its TLD. The application process for a TLD is known to be challenging, requiring approval from ICANN and community support. Despite this, Shiba Inu plans to submit its application in the next ICANN window.

This initiative is aligned with Shiba Inu’s broader strategy of providing distinct identities to its projects. In November, Shiba Inu introduced the Shib Name Service (SNS), a solution intended for digital identity verification across its ecosystem. With the collaboration with D3, Shiba Inu’s SNS will be integrated into the D3 infrastructure.
